the michael jack of hip hop?

it's black...it's white...it's hard to say?

is the success of kanye west due to the fact that he is both "black" and "white"...while his lyrics speak of "blackness" or the black experience...his artistic beats are inherently white. does he deserve the perennial "michael jack of hip hop." does his music dilute the colorline? or is this both "yes" and "no."

and now in his cocky/advanced/bugeios/capitalistic stage is he speaking more white then black?

the question remains...peep the link

CRS- "us placers"

for the indy-backpack-hipster-sole rebel-ice creamer: hop hop head!

i love this song when i bootlegged it a while back...

the question remains...can this tripod of hip hops finest actually save hip hop?

Twista feat. Pharrell- That Girl Wanna Give It Up

Yet another misogynistic banger...! (no pun intended)

I have to admit though...this video is very ice creamy and a whole slew of LA shoe heads/ bapesta's/ hipster hop heads/ well just the whole DAMN LA scene in general prolly look at this in envy...

P.S. my sister says that word on the street is that Pharrell shoots up BOTOX cuz hes a lot older then he looks...gotta admit...his face is pretty smooth...

can a music video make you like a song more...

case study # 1

A-YO technology
50 Cent feat. Justin Timberlake

i must admit this song is totally wack when i hear it stand alone...but when i see the music video...it's intriguing. is the fact that now i "listen" with my eyes make this song actually palatable. or can i just appreciate the fact that timbaland is continually pushing for a new sound; even though i think it's somewhat suspect. maybe the music video is part of the "marination factor" that record companies use to deploy on us music consumers and with the use of audio and visual saturation, it makes you like a potentially bad song. some would say that's what's going on in hip hop right now...flood the market with wack, consumer driven songs with catchy hooks and a simple derived beat. that will be for another blog. but yea...experiment with this case study, let me know what you think.

stay classy...

"The game's in the refrigerator, the door's closed, the light's out, the eggs are cooling, the butter's getting hard and the Jell-O's jiggling."

consumption junction...what's you function

Don't blow it - good planets are hard to find...

~ as quoted in TIME

a wise man one said...

oh mercy, mercy me...
things ain't what they use to be...

marvin gaye sang that beautiful song and in 1971...even then he knew the destructive path in which we treat one of our most precious resources: the environment.

do you believe in foresight?

it is now the year twenty 07 and we are finally waking up to the realities of global warming and the damages we are causing to the only mother that we all come from...

EARTH...

lets face it...we are consumers...we consume everything in sight: water. oil. electricity. energy. fossil fuels. land. plants. paper. light bulbs. gas. plastic. aluminum. animals. eco systems. we are a nation built on the foundation of consumption. we consume, therefore we are. we do not hesitate. in fact we enjoy and flaunt our consumption. we consume based on necessity. we consume to live and we consume to die. and in the middle of all this we are to expect that the natural world comply with our consumption junction.

i am not going to preach here. i alone am one of the worst offenders of environmental gluttony. i drive a horrible commute to and from work. i consume more gasoline and oil than your average. i drive everywhere all the while i rack up the 15,000 plus carbon dioxide poundage just off driving alone.
i work for corporate america and thus i consume more paper then what is needed. reports upon reports means trees upon trees.

i am the consumer energizer bunny. i keep wastin' and wastin'. i leave my laptop on so that i can constantly check my myspace and my away message is important to me. i leave lights on when i shouldn't and since its so damn hot...(i wonder why: global warming~cough*) the AC has become my friend.

i have a massive carbon print. (for those that don't know when we consume we give off our own unique carbon print, kinda like a fingerprint.)

so what am i to do? yes being green is super trendy and thanks to al gore we are all realizing our inconvenient truth. a call to action is a realistic action and it does start with the (wo)man in the mirror. the convenient truth is that there is a realistic opportunity to create a revolution against consumption. we can use the means of production against itself by simply consuming less or consuming smart. to ask ourselves to stop consuming is unrealistic but asking ourselves to purchase energy efficient light bulbs or to resist the temptation to leave my computer on DOES HELP! we cannot drive less but we can CARPOOL more. we can use digital documents as opposed to pulling double digit paper reports. we can accept the truth instead of being complacent.

it's been roughly 36 years since marvin sang his song and unfortunately it is still relevant. the environment is intrinsically linked to our most important resource: the youth. we need to make sure we leave something better for them...or else there goin to have to find a new planet...
